PSTC Foundation
Thank you for taking an interest in our 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization that was formed to help educate high-school aged students in various Public Safety courses that will allow them to enter the work force in Firefighting and/or EMS by the time they graduate High School.
We have our sights focused on today's youth and attempting to bridge the gap between the need for a younger generation to enter public safety and the available training, especially in rural and more deprived communities.
Areas of Youth Education
Fire Services
Students will go through an initial 60 hour course which encapsulates Wisconsin Entry Level Firefighter 1 & 2. They can then continue with the remaining 30 hours of instruction (totaling 90 hours) and will become a Wisconsin State Certified Firefighter 1 through their local technical college; or they can enroll in the Fire Science Associate Degree program to gain even more training.
EMS Courses
Students will partake in a 2-part course based upon their desires to move forward in the EMS field. The 1st Part will be to complete the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course and become a licensed provider. If they wish to continue their education, they will pick up where they left off and learn the 2nd half of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course. Upon successful completion and passing of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exams, they will have the opportunity to become a State Licensed provider in any of the 50 states.
911 Dispatcher
Students will participate in a 40 hour course that will earn them a certification as an ETC (Emergency Telecommunicator) from IAED: International Academies of Emergency Dispatch.
This certification is a stepping stone into becoming a 911 Dispatcher and IAED is the premier training and certification body for most 911 Centers across the nation.
About the Foundation
The PSTC Foundation was created to educate and train our high school age students in various Firefighter training and certification programs. Students aged 16-18 who are Sophomore through Senior at their high school can take our ‘Entry Level Firefighter 1’ and ‘Entry Level Firefighter 2’ courses (that are 60 total hours in length, respectively). After these 2 courses, they can then begin to take additional courses such as ‘Apparatus Driver/Operator’ or continue on to the State Certification Courses through their local Technical College.
Juniors who will be 17 years of age at the time of course completion are able to take the ‘Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)’ course and become a WI State Licensed provider. Seniors who will be 18 years of age at the time of course completion are able to take the ‘Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)’ course and become a licensed provider right out of high school.
These courses are primarily offered to students in rural areas where staffing of volunteer organizations is a much bigger issue. The courses are offered through donations of monetary value and physical items that are on our wish list. No contribution is too small to educate our youth and have them serving their communities and have certificates in-hand to enter into the work force as a firefighter and/or EMT right at graduation.
